Fair Recruitment

FADWU campaigns for fair recruitment practices in Hong Kong.
FADWU campaigns against illegal and exploitative recruitment practices among employment agencies, the most prevalent of which is excessive placement fees. Although overcharging migrant workers for placement fees is a violation of the law and regulations governing employment agencies, FADWU’s research findings indicate that as much as 60% of MDWs have faced overcharging.
Unethical agencies in Hong Kong and home countries often make MDWs sign loan agreements requiring the payment of an excessive portion of their monthly wages over the course of 6-12 months. These agencies also illegally confiscate passports to hold as collateral. FADWU takes on individual cases on behalf of MDWs whose rights are violated, while continuing to research and campaign against illegal recruitment practices and insufficient worker protections.
